About
The Texas Speedcubing Club was founded in the Fall of 2007 at The University of Texas at Austin by a group of friends wanting to spread the sport of speedcubing across Texas. At the time, it was known that cubers existed in Texas, but there were no local competitions. This dilemma was troubling, and so the Texas Speedcubing Club was created to remedy this problem.
For the first year, there was little activity. However, in the Summer of 2008, planning started for the first Texas Speedcubing Club sponsored Rubik's Cube Competition: the 2008 Austin Open. This was the first competition to take place in Texas which was hosted by Texas (the only competition to take place in Texas before this was the Caltech Dallas in 2005).
Since then, the Texas Speedcubing Club has been hosting competitions in Texas in hopes of fostering an active speedcubing community in Texas.
